2012 SPRINT CUP CHAMPION ODDS

Posted 01/20/12 at 5:00 AM PST by Dan_Farkas | Email This |

2012 Sprint Cup odds...oh how I've missed you.

The numbers are out. And even though there have been three whopping days of testing at Daytona, the numbers will surprise you. Here are three driver ranked too high and too low.

Tony Stewart at 5/1: Too High
Stewart’s 2011 Chase is movie material. Maybe straight to HBO, but movies are movies.

If it took history to get Stewart his third trophy, why would he be a favorite to repeat? Cinderellas don’t repeat. Not even if they hang out with Erik Estrada….

Jimmie Johnson at 7/1: Too Low
Four drivers ahead of a five-time champion. Did you see how well Hendrick cars tested at Daytona? Don’t poke a big bear with a short stick, or in this case a bearded man wearing Lowe’s gear.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 20/1: Too High

If a driver hadn’t won in 110 straight starts, would you consider him a contender? The #88 will win a race this year. A title? Easy money for the house.

Kasey Kahne at 20/1: Too Low

Kahne ended as one of racing’s hottest drivers. My wife says he’s always been hot. This worries me. What doesn’t is better equipment, renewed confidence and no pressure to be the guy.

Paul Menard at 80/1: Too High
Really….who makes this bet?

Kyle Busch at 15/1: Too Low

Busch maybe hasn’t choked in the Chase. He has stunk.

There’s not a driver out there who will be favored to win more this year than Busch. Talent isn’t the issue. Equipment isn’t the issue. If the annual “Kyle Busch has changed for the better” story ESPN does is actually true, Busch should be the favorite to win the Sprint Cup.

Here’s what The Spread thinks about your favorite driver. We don’t need an iPhone to know Daytona is coming soon. Now insert random catchphrase here.
