Not content with his vehicular manslaughter-less 13th place finish in Portland two weeks ago, 81-year-old driver Hershel McGriff is climbing back behind the wheel today at the Camping World Series West race in Tooele, Utah. McGriff is the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR event and is without a doubt the best thing to happen to the sad part of Mark Martin’s soul that dies a little each time someone teases him about being old. McGriff’s return to the track has drawn nationwide attention, including this mention from Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien.
McGriff graciously made time to sign autographs after the race in Portland. In this video he soaks his feet, draws an inexplicable mark on a young boy’s shirt and signs a hot, young 65-year-old’s leg.
