ARE NASCAR DRIVERS SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER?

Posted 10/02/09 at 10:46 AM PDT by Dan_Farkas | Email This |

Either a stereotype will be reinforced, or we’ll find out that David Ragan is a rocket scientist.  Five Sprint Cup drivers have filmed episodes for the train wreck/television show “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”

David Ragan, Michael Waltrip, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch went to La La Land (crap, my editor lives there, I mean Los Angeles) before the Infineon race to film episodes for NASCAR Week, which kicks off October 26 in syndication. The good news, or bad news, is Ragan was so smart or awful that he gets a special airing of his episode Tuesday, October 6 on something called MyNetworkTV. What could possible go wrong?  Just ask Clay Aiken.

By the way, Ragan started racing at age 11, and his bio doesn’t list word one about college, let alone a degree. Ditto for Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin, both of whom majored in dating attractive women. Michael Waltrip also doesn’t have a word about higher education on his bio, though he does have a mad scientist look about him.

Turns out Kurt Busch is the only one of the five to have attended college. Busch had interests in pharmacy and microbiology, but left school to pursue a career in racing and monotone sound bites. The only driver I found to have a degree in anything other than being a badass was Ryan Newman, who graduated with a degree in engineering from Purdue.

I just hope these guys do better than the wrestlers from WWE.

You forgot to mention that Clay Aiken won $300,000
for his charity [National Inclusion Project in Raleigh, NC],
he could have continued, he had the right answer for
the next question; but didn't want to risk 30 summer
camps for children with disabilities included with
children without disabilities.

Give him credit when credit is due. Wise decision
not to gamble $300,000 instead of the offset
would would have been $25,000. I admire him
for his dedication.
