Say hello to the most successful female driver in the world. Her name is Ashley Force Hood. She is the Danica Patrick of NHRA Funny Cars – except she wins more often. A lot more often.
On Sept. 7, Force Hood, 26, became the first woman to win a National Hot Rod Association U.S. Nationals championship in the Funny Car division in Indianapolis. It was her third career Funny Car win and eighth career win overall.
Force Hood is the daughter of NHRA Funny Car champion John Force. Her first professional win came against her dad.
Funny cars go more than 300 mph. That’s almost as fast as Tony Stewart drives to Burger King and twice as fast as Danica Patrick tours Sprint Cup team shops.
Force Hood and her family were featured on two seasons of the A&E reality show "Driving Force." The show introduced the world to Ashley, as well as her sisters Brittany and Courtney and their mother Laurie.
Jory Elliott of Fast Machines has written of Force Hood, "Is there any other woman on the planet that can claim she has gone over 300 miles per hour on land and won the most prestigious race that her sport has to offer? Granted, she has been blessed with a father who has the resources necessary to make those things happen, but it still takes a tremendous amount of guts to get behind the wheel of an 8000 horsepower Funny Car, not to mention the skills necessary to have consistent reaction times and a knowledge base extensive enough to convey important and accurate information to your crew chief."
