Brian Vickers Fires Another Shot

Posted 02/20/09 at 7:14 AM PST by Stephen | Email This |

You've got to hand it to Brian Vickers. Not only does he block the crap out of Dale Earnhardt Jr. last Sunday -- too aggressively, I thought; and still think -- and ignite The Big One, but he comes out of the Infield Care Center and calls out Junior.

Flat-out ballsy.

Vickers' willingness to suggest the emperor has no clothes is a bit like suggesting back in 2003 that Saddam Hussein didn't have weapons of mass destruction, wasn't linked to September 11th, and posed zero threat to anyone outside Iraq; that is, it may be true to anyone with two eyes, a pulse, and a brain, but, good heavens, it's just not done!

But this Vickers, I'll be damned if he isn't the gift that keeps on giving. He's already jabbed the bull at least twice and lived to tell about it. Apparently, he just likes playing with fire:

"I just assumed this was going to be my fault -- it really didn't matter what happened -- from the fans' perspective," Vickers said. "It's the first time that I can remember that Junior's been judged on his actions and not his popularity."

Now, if Vickers renders ap opinion on the whole waterboarding is/isn't torture thing, we'll know he's just nuts ...

Digger was a joke- the kid's don't need to be included that much in NAPCar. I sure hope that Vickers won't back down to Junior nation, this kid has got ballz and should win more races with a more level playing field this year. Digger BLOWS, bury the gopher Fox and try to show more green flag racing instead of constant commercial breaks followed by "this is what brought the yellow out while you were all away" coverage of racing action.

Vickers is smart. He keeps this up, people may actually know who he is. Of course, there are millions of people who will remember his ONE win in the Sprint/Nextel/Winston Cup in 2006. And, of course there are his THREE Busch/Nationwide wins, so you add a few more million fans. No, no reason at all for him to pick a possibly legitimate beef with the all-great Jr. Why would someone who millions adore want to position himself for a season long feud with the guy who gets the most TV mentions per broadcast (outside Digger)?
