What is the Brickyard 400?

OK, it’s a race. I get it. But this was supposed to be the second biggest race on the schedule when first created. Does it feel like the second biggest race of the 2012 Sprint Cup schedule?

Like racing, Indi seems to be changing. Consider the following questions:

We are the champions?
Eight drivers have won at Indi, then won the season championship. The last two winners didn’t even make the Chase.

Can someone make a pass?
The Indi 500 is  perfect for passing. As Sprint Cup cars become so similar, passing becomes a challenge to the point where a bad qualifying run almost ends your chance at winning before you start.

This race was marred by a bad tire and frequent cautions. Now as cautions seem to be more anomloy that trend, you couple it with the passing problems and we could get a dull dull race Sunday.

I’m still dull to the pain of awful loss at Loudon. Up a fake 500 dollars, here’s my attempt to bounce back for the sake of entertainment purposes alone.

17 fake dollars on Jimmie Johnson at 6/1
Five time either dominates this race or stinks the joint up. I don’t fake bet for points.

13 fake dollars on Tony Stewart at 8/1
Stewart has the highest average finish among active drivers and is second in that category over the last five years. He’s racing for wins at this point.

10 fake dollars on Jeff Gordon at 10/1

Speaking of racing for wins, paging Mr. Gordon. This is Gordon’s only chance to make the Chase; he does have four wins here, not to mention the home state vibe.

10 fake dollars on Kasey Kahne at 12/1

Kahne on a big track…I’ve made dumber fake wagers.

I grew up jealous of friends who got to see the 500. Now I wonder how much of the 400 I will fast forward on DVR. I hope I’m wrong about the race and right with my picks. Here’s what The Spread thinks. Enjoy the race, and insert random catchphrase here.
