CAPITAL CITY 400 ODDS

Maybe Jack Roush was right.

When Toyota debuted in the Sprint Cup, Jack Roush worried the automaker’s resources would start to dominate the Sprint Cup. After seeing Toyota start and barely qualify for many races, that thought seemed laughable.

Nobody is laughing now.

Five of the top twelve drivers in the point standings drive a Toyota. If you combined the points of Mark Martin and Brian Vickers, they would be in the mix as well. The engine merger of Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota is the most understated story of the year. It’s not even close.

Another top five story might be the only disappointment in the Toyota family. Kyle Busch has had his worst start in years, yet finds himself a whopping nine points from the Chase. Enter Busch to Richmond, one of his best tracks. Busch has the best average finish among active drivers and should rebound.

The question now is how will other manufactuers rebound to this push. Somewhere Jack Roush is frowning, especially after he sees these picks. Keep in mind, I'm still up fake 435 dollars after last week's loss at the hands of Denny Hamlin

20 fake dollars on Denny Hamlin at 6/1
Hamlin isn’t the favorite at one of his favorite tracks. Kyle Busch is in the midst of his worst start in years. OK.

15 fake dollars on Jimmie Johnson at 7/1

Five Time has three wins here in the last five years. Charlie Sheen and Mike Singletary approve.

10 fake dollars on Tony Stewart at 10/1

Over the last five years, Stewart has the third best average finishing position...just no wins. Let’s fix that.

5 fake dollars on Clint Bowyer at 25/1

I am picking Bowyer until he wins.

Short tracks and Saturday night…a combination that might even make Jack Roush smile. Here’s what The Spread thinks. Enjoy the race, and insert random catchphrase here.

Kyle Busch 5/1
Denny Hamlin 6/1
Jimmie Johnson 7/1
Carl Edwards 8/1

i have truly enjoyed your article!!!!

Stumbled across allleftturns several weeks ago and love the blogs! I find that the first thing I do on Friday mornings now is head straight to the computer to check for Dan's article. Admittedly it might be a better idea to find a toothbrush or a shower first, but it is what it is I guess. Anywho, I love Dan's take on each weeks race, his nascar insight and sense of humor are a refreshing start to this racefans weekend!

That being said, I thought I should point out that his "fake dollar total" is incorrect. Probably not worth mentioning since it clearly says fake dollars and is all just for fun, but as a former occasional gambler (obviously an unsuccessful one since it says "former"!) I thought I should point it out in case others are using real dollars on his picks now, or might be in the future based on the inflated numbers. Basically what looks to be happening is on the weeks he has a winner (Impressively 5 of them already this season!) he only lists the winnings and not the losses. For example week 1 (Daytona) he correctly picked the winner Matt Kenseth for 5 fake dollars at 22-1. He therefore listed week 1 as being up 110 fake dollars. While Kenseth did win 110, the other racers he picked that week (45 fake dollars worth) did not, so he was actually only up 65 for the week.

Keep in mind he's still up a nice chunk of fake dollars on the season, just not quite the amount listed. Doesn't make a lick of difference to me, I thoroughly enjoy the blog and will look forward to this weekend's version just as I have previously, just wanted to give a heads up to those who might be considering using "unfake dollars" on Dan's picks. Thank you, and drive home safely! (random catchphrase)
