Thoughts and observations heading into All-Star weekend:
- The top 13 drivers in the Chase field are in the All-Star race. In that sense, the system for determining drivers works. I don’t agree with Richard Huff when he writes that the field is not All-Star caliber.
- Mr. I Can’t Pour Beer Kasey Kahne won the event last year after starting 24th.
- In his three All-Star appearances, Kyle Busch led more laps than any other driver, but had a DNF in each race.
- Who will be tough to beat on Saturday? Jeff Gordon (three wins), Jimmie Johnson (two wins), Mark Martin (two wins) and Tony Stewart (five top-fives) have to be considered favorites.
Check back in on Saturday night. I will be live-blogging the race. Also, feel free to friend me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/allleftturns.
