Three issues emerge for me:
1) The night races end WAY TOO LATE! They need to be over by 10:00 Eastern time. Any later and people tune out.
2) DVRs! We can't stay awake until almost midnight and our days are full of other activities like gardening, lawn care, the lake, etc., especially when the weather is nice. Much easier to record and then watch at a more convenient time, skipping the commercials and "boring" parts. Cuts viewing time in 1/2. And cut out 1/2 the pre-race yapping.
3) Car manufacturers? Every car is a custom built clone of every other car. The only differences are decals. Big Deal. Originally is was STOCK car racing which meant I could walk into a dealer and buy one out of dealer STOCK. There is not a single Chevy, Dodge, Ford or Toyota ANYWHERE in NASCAR, even the lower levels like K&N. Who cares?! Like you said, it is PERSONALITIES that count!
Just my 2 cents.
