Anyone who has been to a race at the old Fairgrounds speedway, or has driven in a race there, understands how really special the races there were. At one point in its history, the turns at nashville were banked more than those at bristol,
I went to, and drove in, races at Nashville from 1965 until 1969. Raced against the #777 of Marty Robbins and a fellow by the name of Coo-Coo Marlin back in those days. On the occassional saturday night, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison and Red Farmer would show up and some real hardnose racing would take place.
I missed racing there after I left nashville and moved to Houston, TX. Drove in a few races at the old Billy Meyer speedway but never found it to be like racing at Nashville.
Now, even the Busch (Nationwide) series no longer races there but at the bigger track near Percy Priest Lake.
I suspect that if you spoke with a lot of the old timers who raced at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, they'd tell you that it was absolutely one of their favorite tracks ever.
