Race week in Southern California should come with plenty of star power. Problem is the spring race is Oscar weekend; so, unless you like Gary Coleman, real celebrities are hard to come by. The race this weekend is a little different, so we get goofy pairings like this.

John C. Reilly, or Cal Naughton Jr. as I remember him, will be the grand marshal for the Nationwide race this Saturday. On Sunday, Kelsey Grammer, or Dr. Frasier Crane as everyone remembers him, will serve as grand marshal of the Sprint Cup race.  Each will get to wave to fans and say those famous words to start the race (no, not boogity-boogity-boogity.)

The pairing made absolutely no sense to me. Then I realized Reilly was in "Boogie Nights" with Philip Seymour Hoffman, who was in "Doubt" with Meryl Streep, who was in "She-Devil" with Roseanne, who was in "Roseanne" with Tom Arnold, who was in "McHale’s Navy" with Kelsey Grammer. So, duh, it seems totally reasonable the two of them would enjoy racing this weekend.

Unfortunately, neither man made a contrived statement that I could make fun of in a never-to-be-read press release. As a result, I give the gifts of wisdom of "Bake" from "Shake and Bake," as well as a zany blooper reel from "Frasier."
