IRWIN TOOLS NIGHT RACE ODDS

Dear Kevin Harvick,

We’ve never met. I’m sure you’re a great guy. But I would like to use this forum to ask what I did to make you ruin my week.

I spent the first third of the season touting your comeback from a dreadful 2009 season. Every time I picked you, you never won. At Talladega, I went in a different direction. So did you. To Victory Lane.

I’ve kept my distance as you’ve maintained the top spot in the standings. Things were cool. Then last week, you crossed the line. I picked drivers who finished second, third, fourth and fifth. But I didn’t pick you. That really stunk.

Now down a fake $175 heading into Bristol, I would love to respond the only way I know how: picking you win, thus ensuring you won’t win. But I’m willing to settle this like a gentleman. You stop messing with my picks. I’ll not pick you in my column and give you a real chance to win the Sprint Cup. I hope this seems as fair to you as it does to me. Oh yeah, Joey Logano is a whiner.

With regards,

Dan

Now my picks.

20 fake dollars on Kyle Busch at 6/1: Can you name another driver who has a better average finish at Bristol in the last five years? No you can’t because the dude doesn’t exist.  And while I agree Busch’s struggles are of concern, I can’t find a track that suits him better for a rebound. Maybe like Kevin Harvick at Talladega.

20 fake dollars on Kurt Busch at 7/1: Busch almost won at Bristol earlier in the year. He has a good short track pedigree. And with all the near scrapes Busch has been involved in this season, I think Bristol will suit this Busch brother just fine. Kind of like Kevin Harvick at Michigan.

10 fake dollars on Greg Biffle at 10/1: We’re all looking for drivers to dethrone Jimmie Johnson. Nobody is talking about Greg Biffle as that guy. Why? Biffle won at Pocono, ran well at Watkins Glen, had the best car at Michigan and has shown a propensity to close well.  2010 has been an interesting ride for Jack Roush. It could end with quite the bang. Kind of like Kevin Harvick at Daytona back in 2008.
