Calling Lisa Mayfield a murdering whore carries a price. According to court documents uncovered by ESPN, that price is at least $20,000. The Worldwide Leader reports that Lisa Mayfield is seeking damages against her stepson, suspended driver Jeremy Mayfield, for comments that he made to espn.com and WSOC-TV in Charlotte. In an interview with ESPN regarding his civil case against NASCAR Mayfield said, "She's basically a whore. She shot and killed my dad." Mayfield does not believe his father committed suicide. In court documents, Lisa Mayfield claims she saw Jeremy Mayfield use meth at least 30 times since 1998.

According to ESPN, Lisa Mayfield is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $10,000, punitive damages of least $10,000 and other "relief as the court may deem just and proper." I am no lawyer, but those numbers seem low. If someone called me a murdering whore and besmirched my reputation, I would want to be compensated for better than the tune of one 2009 Chevy Malibu. Then again, Mayfield contends that his stepmother is a gold digger, so maybe the relatively small damages sought in the suit are a way to disprove that claim.

NASCAR suspended Mayfield on May 9 after a random drug test came up positive for methamphetamine. Mayfield said the test was the result of combining Claritin D for allergies with the subscription drug Adderall for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Mayfield, who recently sold his cars and equipment, remains suspended and likely will never race again.
