JIMMIE JOHNSON, MEET JIMMY THE GREEK

Consider this the mandatory reminder that the following information is for recreational purposes only. Whew.

Now that that’s out of the way, take a look at some of the odds for this weekend’s race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. There are so many things that jump out upon an initial review.

Kasey Kahne (10/1) looks tempting.

Kahne won three of the last seven at this track and is using an engine that doesn’t blow up after 300 miles. To be seventh on the odds chart is frisky, and that’s the only time I will ever use Kasey Kahne and frisky in the same sentence; so, keep it PG kids.

Why does Jack Roush love David Ragan (150/1)?

There’s all this talk that Jamie McMurray is the odd man out at Roush when the Roush mandatory contraction takes place after this season. But what in the blue hell has David Ragan done to at least not be considered a potential candidate to ride the Poopcan Express? I’m not saying it should happen. But for Ragan to have the same odds as Michael Waltrip on a track sans restrictor plates stunned me. And since Vegas knows more about sports than I ever will, those odds have to say something.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (30/1) is in real trouble.

A pit boss once told me lines are influenced by how popular the team/person is. The lines for Los Angeles Lakers games are always messed up because Lakers fans always bet on the Lakers. Ditto for New York teams and the Detroit Shock of the WNBA.

Dale Jr. is NASCAR’s most popular driver. If his name was Dale Smith, those odds could mirror David Ragan’s. And since the top three favorites are Hendrick guys, those odds really say something.

Enjoy the racing. Jimmy will.
