Joey Logano? Martin Truex Jr? Who’s Right?

during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series First Data 500 at Martinsville Speedway on October 28, 2018 in Martinsville, Virginia.

Hours of boredom followed by minutes of sheer terror. The physical finish (see it here) at Martinsville between Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr. is the topic of discussion in the world of NASCAR. Naturally, there are varying opinions on the use of the chrome horn by Logano.

Truex made his feelings known on the cool down lap, rubbing hard on the race winner’s rear end. Nothing over the top, just showing his displeasure. Even in his post-race interview, the defending series champion avoided a tantrum, while at the same time visibly frustrated.

You can’t blame Truex. Victory has eluded him on the short tracks over the course of his career. No question he was very clean with Logano. If you had passed for the lead without making contact, and then your opponent employed the bump and run on you, it’s safe to say you’d be pissed too.

Some are reading from what was said later that Martin Truex Jr. has revenge planned for Joey Logano. I don’t think so. It wouldn’t be smart. An overreaction by MTJ could result in getting himself parked. At the moment, Truex has bigger fish to fry. What you can read from his remarks is that the standard bearer for Furniture Row Racing will race his tail off and keep Logano out that way. I mean, as it is, Truex finished third. Logano didn’t wreck him, and Truex got a decent finish. He’s still very much in this.

While there’s nothing wrong with the reaction of Truex, the view from here is Logano did nothing wrong. There’s a big difference between the bump and run and the bump and dump. This fan’s reaction is far different if Truex gets wrecked. But that didn’t happen.

Logano did nothing wrong. Truex is within his right to be unhappy. What say you? I say we had a heck of a short track finish to an otherwise pedestrian race.
