Because of the number of races it has hosted, and the speeds produced by the track, Michigan International Speedway, location of this week's LifeLock 400, has been the site of driver and fan deaths and many violent on-track collisions.

Al Unser Jr.-Chip Ganassi CART crash 1984
Ganassi suffered multiple head and body injuries during this crash that effectively ended his driving career.
Adrian Fernandez crash kills three spectators at CART race 1998
One of the saddest days in motorsports history. Three fans were killed and six more were injured at this CART race when Fernandez's tire cleared a 14-foot fence and shot into the stands. Fernandez sent condolence letters to the families of the dead.
Rick Baldwin fatal accident 1986
Another tragic day for motorsports. As a result of the crash, Baldwin spent 11 years in a coma and died in 1997.

In 1969 or 70 a Mustang went off the road coures in the transition area over the oval track on the back strech and ran into an AMC drive-away group situated behind a snow fence. I was there on the site with Les Richter. Will you please give me the details as they have been recorded. Thank You, Don
