Monday Morning Link Dump
A quick survey of some of the more interesting stories about the sport this morning ...

No, Sunday's Auto Club 500 didn't produce a finish as exciting as the one engineered by Richard Petty and David Pearson at Daytona in 1976 (above); in fact, Sunday's finish rather sucked. But, the race did give rise to some interesting stories. Here's a quick roundup of some of them this morning:
* The dearly-departed and apparently-resurrected Daly Planet affirms our sense of what we witnessed on TV Sunday.
* Veteran reporter and eminence grise Mike Mulhern wonders what NASCAR can do to improve racing at Auto Club Speedway.
* RacingWithRich.com: Kyle Busch isn't such a dick after all! No, seriously!
* The King is Dead ... no, not that one. General Motors, or at least so says Larry Van Zandt.

The Auto Club 500 is boring. Yes. Phoenix is not boring. That's true. Daytona is not boring. Uh Huh.
But I don't think it's worth complaining about. I've been to the Auto Club 500 several times and maybe I fell asleep once or twice. But I think that's what makes it great. That's it's personality. It gives drivers other than the top ten to run at 200mph and actually cross the finish line. At the end of the race.
I love how each track has such a distinct personality. And if there's not "the big one" every weekend, well, that's a good thing right?

Mr. Simon: While I agree that avoiding The Big One isn't necessarily a bad thing, I have to say, I find your defense of California Speedway a bit ... interesting. I guess I can understand what you're saying, but, I think I'd prefer to see good, hard racing at 150 MPH, rather than parade laps at 200 MPH. But, hey, ain't America great?
