Hometown: South Boston, Virginia
Jeff Burton is a throwback to earlier times when drivers came from the South and didn't look or sound like celebrities. Burton came up through the ranks of NASCAR the way drivers used to - by winning in the Nationwide series and then entering Sprint Cup through a succession of under-financed rides before landing that magic combination. For Burton, the winning combination was at Roush Racing with the obnoxious Frankie Stoddard as his crew chief. Together, they won 17 races between 1997 and 2001.

After remaining winless in 2002 and 2003, Burton made the change to Richard Childress Racing in mid-2004, but suffered another winless season in 2005.
2006 and 2007 were slightly better as Burton scored one win each year, followed by two wins in 2008. This was followed by another winless season for 2009. However, we can't blame Burton or RCR for that can we? After all, nobody won anything in 2009 unless they drove for Hendrick Motorsports.
Richard Childress Racing floundered a bit following Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s death in 2001. Burton, a seasoned veteran, has brought stability to the RCR camp since joining in 2004. Always thoughtful and intelligent the Virginian has cemented his place as one of NASCAR’s most informed, eloquent, and reasonable critics – he’s affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of the Garage.”
