Generally, NASCAR fans are cruelest to the drivers they hate, whether they're any good or not.  When we asked readers who they thought was the worst Cup driver, we expected lots of Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr answers, but what we got was several suggestions for drivers who actually do suck.  Scott Speed was mentioned more than once.

When you look at the guy's record, it's pretty hard to argue the point.  He was released from his F1 ride for poor performance, and his Cup record doesn't look any better.  Zero wins and zero poles for 2008 and 2009 and 35th place finish in the points for 2009.  Still, it's too early in his career to count him out.  Especially when he gets hot, like he did in early 2010.  The argument here could be that even a blind squirrel gets a nut eventually, but let's keep an eye on him. 

Speed comes from a pretty unique racing background.  He's US-born, but somehow ended up in open wheel racing.  In 2005, he became the first North American driver to participate in a Formula One event since Michael Andretti in 1993.
