NASCAR Mexico driver Carlos Pardo was killed in a crash during the final laps of a race on Sunday. Pardo was leading when his car was bumped by a competitor, causing Pardo to slam sideways into a wall at the entrance of pit road. He was going about 120 mph. The car disintegrated on impact.
Pardo, 33, was removed from the wreckage and flown by helicopter to a hospital. The NASCAR Mexico Web site reported that he died 45 minutes later. NASCAR sanctions a Mexican version of its racing circuit run by a joint venture.
