Nascar Odds: Offseason Prop Bets

It is the strangest weekend of the entire racing year.

After 36 races and more than 40 weeks of thinking about a Sprint Cup season, there is no race, no next step, not moves to ponder. So now what?

While Kevin Harvick parties like a rock star, the rest of the racing world looks ahead to 2015. Here are some Nascar prop bets to get you through the weekend.

Odds Joey Logano gets over Homestead in 2015: 2/1

Under the old Chase system Logano would be the one partying, our 2015 Sprint Cup champion. A bad pit stop didn’t help, but Logano probably didn’t have the mustard to catch Kevin Harvick. Denny Hamlin struggled after not closing in 2010. Carl Edwards didn’t get as close after 2011. Clint Bowyer wasn’t a factor after last year. Logano broke out, has a great owner and if supremely confident. He’ll need that in 2015.

Odds Chase Elliott runs 36 races in 2016: Even Money

The 2015 Chase Elliott plan calls for the 2014 Nationwide Series champion to run a handful or Sprint Cup races and defend his title. But Kasey Kahne just resigned with Hendrick Motorsports for three years this week. Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. aren’t going anywhere. Will Elliott sit for three full seasons when Rick Hendick said he could run races now? Other than Joe Gibbs Racing, is there not a team out there that wouldn’t make space for Elliott? If I were Roger Penske, I would be trying to add a third team ASAP. This will be an interesting test.

Odds Michael Waltrip Racing gets a Chase team in 2014: 3/1

The 2014 Sprint Cup season was one to forget for MWR. Clint Bowyer went from almost winning a title to off the winning wagon. The organization ran one fewer team, and Brian Vickers stumbled at the end of the year.

Kyle Busch mentioned the importance of pooling resources, calling Hendrick Motorsports an “8-car team” when you consider the Stewart Haas partnership. I don’t know if it’s good for this kind of resource pooling is good for the sport, but if it happened, MWR would quicken the pace, which gives me an excuse to show this.

Good luck finding something else on TV this weekend, and insert a random catchphrase here.
