Where’s Tim Allen when we need him?
The soothing voice behind the Pure Michigan ads that are on TV all the time might be necessary come Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400. After looking at the NASCAR odds for Sunday’s race, it could be a wild few hours at Michigan International Speedway.
Kevin Harvick has slowed but remains a 9/2 favorite. Harvick has one win in 29 career starts at Michigan International Speedway. Five drivers have a better average career finish.
In Harvick’s favor, only three drivers have completed a higher percentage of laps at MIS than Harvick; he also has 12 top 10 finishes up north. He will certainly be a factor Sunday.
This is a much larger pool than normal, suggesting that oddsmakers aren’t really sure who might win.
Kyle Busch is 7/1. At this point, I would trust Kyle Busch to win anywhere. But if Busch pulls of a win at Michigan, it will cement his run as one of the best in NASCAR history. MIS might be Busch’s worst track. In 21 career starts, he has just one win and four top 10 finishes. There are 21 drivers with a better average career finish than Busch…21.
Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth are all 8/1. Of the group, Kenseth has the best average finish. He’s also the only one with two career wins.
The Names To Consider:
Carl Edwards is running Joe Gibbs gear, has the best average finish among active drivers at Michigan and has two career wins at MIS. He’s 15/1.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has two career MIS wins and is 12/1.
The numbers aren’t as long at Michigan as other tracks. The 300/1 numbers oddsmakers often make are down to 100/1. Among the names in this field is Greg Biffle. This could be quite the opportunity. Biffle has four career wins at Michigan. In spite of Roush Fenway Racing’s recent struggles, he has the fifth best average finish among active drivers. With some Jack Roush home state mojo, this 100/1 longshot could make someone’s month with a win.
