Kansas Speedway is in Kansas City, Kansas.

Now that your GPS knows where to go, Kansas Speedway is one of the newer tracks on tour, having hosted its first race in 2001.

Kansas is a 1.5 mil tri-oval. Drivers like the track for two different reasons. For starters, it’s one of the better tracks out there for passing other drivers.  As much as has been made about the lack of passing this year, drivers tend to be aggressive out here because they actually have a chance to get something out of that aggression. Add the desperation of some drivers worried about their Chase positioning, and you tend to have some dramatic moments.

Drivers also like the fans, who remain stoked NASCAR even visits Kansas in the first place. It’s an all-around good vibe the entire weekend.

Even though Kansas only hosts one race a year, teams usually feel solid about their rides. The track is similar to other 1.5 mile tri-ovals, especially Chicago; so, teams tend to know what they have in place before taking the car off the trailer.

Here are some quick facts from the track’s website. Enjoy ESPN’s coverage at Sunday 1 EDT.

  • The banking at Kansas is 15 degrees in the corner, 10.4 degrees on the frontstretch and 5 degrees on the backstretch.
  • The frontstretch is 2,685 feet, and the backstretch is 2,207 feet
  • Kansas seats 81,687. Tickets are still available.
  • Parking is free.
  • They are also promoting cheaper ticket prices and wider seats.
  • Greg Biffle won this race last year.
  • Brad Keselowski won at Kansas earlier this year.
  • Jeff Gordon has the best average finish of any active driver.
  • Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart  have the second through fifth best average finishes at Kansas.
  • Gordon, Biffle and Stewart are the only three drivers who have won twice at Kansas.
  • Mark Martin set the race record, averaging 137 miles an hour during his win.
  • Jimmie Johnson has won the pole here three times.
  • Matt Kenseth set the qualifying record, topping 180 miles per hour.
  • JACKYL will perform a concert race week.
  • 38 Special will be performing live on race day.
  • Why Kansas isn’t performing on race day is beyond me as well.
