2013 is almost over.
This is the time when everyone writes a New Year’s Resolution column with random points about the upcoming 2014 Sprint Cup season. Instead, here’s a breakdown of the breakdown, Bert Convy style.
Win: Jimmie Johnson
Johnson finished third in the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year voting, finishing behind LeBron James and Peyton Manning. Based on what both did, NASCAR fans can’t complain. Johnson didn’t and even took a jab at Donovan McNabb.
Imagine what happens when Johnson wins a seventh title next year.
Lose: University of Cincinnati Football:
They lost the Belk Bowl in Charlotte. Before the game, the team took part in a NASCAR experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The good stuff starts at 2:00.
The only reason this is a loss is because the video hasn’t gone NASCAR viral and the Bearcats lost. It’s great to see athletes see what it’s like to be in a car. Imagine experience that kind of roller coaster for 600 miles Memorial Day weekend.
Draw: Tony Stewart
The good news is Stewart’s recovery from that broken leg appears to be going well. The bad news is the injury feels worse than many fans initially thought, especially after watching what happened to Anderson Silva over the weekend.
Stewart’s recovery will be a top story of 2014. That’s because 2013 will soon be in the books. Enjoy the final laps of the year, and remember Daytona is a day closer than yesterday.
