IS NASCAR FOR YOU? A FLOWCHART

Posted 11/10/09 at 10:54 AM PST by Chris M. | Email This |

Being a sports fan means having to make difficult decisions. Decisions like: Do I like pro hoops more than college hoops? Is Chad Ochocinco a nuisance or a national treasure? Do I hate soccer or am I gay? Perhaps no decision is more life-altering than deciding whether or not you are a NASCAR fan. To those who embrace NASCAR comes a life of tailgating, beer and TV on Sundays and yelling when cars go smash. To those who shun NASCAR comes a life of reasonable physical fitness and hating on NASCAR on blog comment threads. Not sure where you fall? Maybe this flowchart can help.

Track attendance numbers, and TV viewership of events, means NASCAR is one of the most watched sports. I actually enjoy sleeping on the couch on Sunday afternoons, waking up to DVR the race back to the crash OR doing things during the day and coming home to zap through the boring parts of the race. I have a favorite driver and can get into the technical aspects of what these multi-million dollar teams have to do to be competitive. Personally, I can't stand country music, so to generalize about the typical viewer is why many people critical of NASCAR get it so so wrong. Oh, and about the keep your girlfriend part, You do realize that most of the advertising is directed at women, right?

Nascar isn't a sport anymore than poker is a sport.

How about this:
Have a race where the goal to see who can drive the furthest on 1 tank of fuel. Only rules would be that everyone must use the same type, grade, and volume of fuel. There would be different classes for different types of alternative fuels. Give the winner a million bucks. Imagine the alternative fuel and fuel efficiency technologies that would result of such a race.

Most pathetic motorsport on earth. It's just dumb enough for Americans - the cars go round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round so the thick, dumb drivers don't have to think about actually DRIVING around CORNERS and stuff.

because slowing down to 50mph to make a right turn makes all other racing sooo much more difficult
