GEN 6: SO FAR A NEW CAR, BUT THE SAME ISSUE

Posted 03/05/13 at 5:00 AM PST

“I hate to be Denny downer, but I just didn't pass that many cars today. That's the realistic fact of it.” It’s an interesting observation from Denny Hamlin, the driver who had to race his hiney off to finish third at the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix. Reigning Sprint Cup champ Brad Keselowski agrees, ““It’s harder than ever to pass. You have to be really good. The cars are so aero sensitive.”

Getting the entirety of NASCAR Nation to agree on much is like trying to herd cats, but it goes without saying that the consensus after two races is that the new car looks a ton better than its predecessor, but the racing all too well still tends to resemble what was seen in the race car formerly known as the Car of Tomorrow.

2013 SUBWAY FRESH FIT 500 ODDS

Posted 03/01/13 at 5:00 AM PST

Imaging playing a regular season game the week after a Super Bowl. It’s happening Sunday in Phoenix.

The 2013 Sprint Cup schedule takes teams to an unpredictable track with varied banking and a new surface. But it’s the same old faces I like at this weekend’s Subway Fresh Fit 500. Here’s why:

DAYTONA 500 ODDS

Posted 02/22/13 at 5:00 AM PST

So much for that strategy.

After banking most of the offseason on the idea Hendrick Motorsports cars will dominate the 2013 Sprint Cup, team Hendrick sputtered at Saturday’s Sprint Unlimited. Now down a fake 50 dollars before the first real race of the season, it’s time to regroup for Sunday’s Great American Race.

LARSON, PARK MAKE IT A BATTLE ALRIGHT

Posted 02/20/13 at 5:00 AM PST

They say “all is fair in love and war.” NASCAR phenom Kyle Larson and Dale Earnhardt protégé Steve Park put the “battle” in the first annual “Battle at the Beach” on the short track at Daytona.

After 20-year old phenom Kyle Larson punted C.E. Falk for the win Monday, Mike Stefanik got the bump and dump from Steve Park on a green-white-checkered, as he won his first Whelen Modified victory in 16 years in Tuesday night’s event. Hopefully, those fans who have been decrying the tame affair that was the Sprint Unlimited caught these slugfests that had all the feel of your local dirt track.
