Putting all the hype aside, Danica Patrick climbed into her No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet on Saturday afternoon and made her stock car debut at Daytona International Speedway. Running the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA Series event, Patrick got firsthand experience running in the draft and banging fenders at over 190 mph.

Starting 12th, Patrick took her time getting used to the difficulties of racing in the draft. She was aggressive at times, communicated well with crew chief Tony Eury Jr., saved a wrecking race car and finished with a top 10. Not a bad outing for her first try.

I have discovered that the best way to watch races is with the television on, the sound down, MRN on the radio and my laptop open. The laptop is essential, because it allows me to connect with sources at the track who can tell me what is really going on during the race. Sadly, television coverage often misses big stories.

I rely heavily on TweetDeck. TweetDeck is a browser that lets me follow multiple Twitter feeds at once. Whom do I follow? I follow almost everyone who follows my Twitter feed - a good rule of thumb for making friends on Twitter. Whom do I read? I narrowed my 500-plus friends down to my favorite 15 feeds. I hope these can be of some help to you as the season starts.

Daytona Speedweeks is overwhelmed with a full-blown case of "Danica Fever." The public will soon be caught up in an epidemic of Danica Patrick. Journalists will speculate about her prospects this year. Throngs of photographers will plaster her image on every magazine. And Jamie Little will look hot reporting on her until we are all driven insane.

There is no escape; this week she'll be in the Super Bowl (in commercials), she'll guest star on CSI: NY (as a leather-clad stock car driver) and she will be in the sky above the East Coast (The AirTranica flying from Orlando to Pittsburgh for AirTran.)

Over the next few weeks, you or a loved one will catch Danica Fever. Here are five ways you can stop it.

1. Stop cold turkey
You've got to quit watching this year's races altogether. Hopefully you've still got all those races on tape from 1999 as part of your y2k preparedness kit. Every week, just watch the appropriate race, including the Southern 500 rightfully back on Labor Day. Enjoy Tony Stewart as a rookie, Rusty behind the wheel of the No. 2 and commercials with those Budweiser lizards. Spoiler Alert: Dale Jarrett won the title.

Ken Schrader won the Busch Clash in the final pair of straight 50-mile distances.

I am an old-school racing guy. I love this sport but I like a lot of things the way they used to be. The Budweiser Shootout this Saturday is among those.

The race is now a longer distance, make-up-the-format-as-we-go-along-so-there-is-a-full-field event. It used to be short, quick and neat.

What a great way to prep for the Daytona 500.

Six days before the biggest race of the year, Carl Edwards will deal with a bunch of sweaty men who wear tights. No, he's not going to karaoke with Michael Waltrip's pit crew. Edwards will serve as guest host of WWE “Monday Night Raw.”

Edwards is the third NASCAR driver to host the show, which gives us some perspective to help make this experience as enjoyable as possible for Captain Aflac.
