Ryan Newman was involved in an ugly crash with five laps to go at the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. After contact with teammate Tony Stewart, Newman’s car went airborne, flipped and landed on the hood of Kevin Harvick’s car. Newman’s No. 39 Chevrolet spun several times before settling on its roof. The driver had to be cut out of the car. He emerged dazed, but otherwise uninjured. Video below.

Last spring at Talladega, Carl Edwards’ car went airborne and landed on the roof of Newman’s car. Newman, an engineer, has been critical of NASCAR’s inability to keep its cars from leaving earth.
