DO “THE DOUBLE” TONY!

There’s an uncharacteristic buzz in the post-award banquet world of racing, and it has nothing to do with what Danica Patrick wore to Las Vegas. Championship racing impresario Roger Penske has the chatter class working overtime with his offer of an Indianapolis 500 ride to NASCAR stud Tony Stewart on the same day as the Coca-Cola 600. It’s the first somewhat serious discussion we have had of “doing the double” (racing both races) in some number of years. Natural ...

CAVS OWNER ANGRY OPEN LETTER TO NASCAR

I am Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I'm furious about a lot of things.  First and foremost is the cowardly betrayal of our fair city by LeBron James.  But I'm equally angered by the state of NASCAR today. After writing my letter to the fans of Cleveland I was moved to write a second letter to NASCAR.Here are the things in NASCAR that make me, Cavs Owner Dan Gilbert, nearly as angry as thinking about LeBron:1. No Camaro? What are you doing Chevy?  No one wants to ...

BURTON AND BUSCH READY TO MOVE ON

LONG POND, Pa. _ Last weekend’s pit road confrontation between Kyle Busch and Jeff Burton raised many eyebrows in the NASCAR garage, not because of Busch’s actions, but because of Burton’s aggressiveness in confronting the driver of the No. 18. Typically a mild-mannered guy, Burton was on fire following the Coca-Cola 600, pointing his finger at Busch and yelling at him as wife Kim tried her best to pull him away. “He’s real aggressive, and that’s cool,” ...

PENSKE, GANASSI BATTLE FROM INDY TO CHARLOTTE AS BUSCH WINS COCA-COLA 600

CONCORD, N.C. _ The day started off with a battle between Roger Penske and Chip Ganassi in the Indianapolis 500 and at the end of the night at the Charlotte Motor Speedway it came down to a battle of Penske versus Ganassi to settle the 51st running of the Coca-Cola 600. Dario Franchitti may have been able to get the job done for Ganassi in Indy, but Kurt Busch was not going to let his Penske car be beaten by a Ganassi owned ride. For much of the race Busch was the car to beat, leading 12 times f ...

COCA COLA 600 ODDS

Hello drawing board. I’ve been missing you. And like that stupid song on the radio, I need you now. After making fun of people who bet on all-star races, I bet on the Sprint Cup All Star-Race, stunningly lost (Jimmie Johnson got hosed, and I’m bitter) and now sit down a fake $350 as I bet every Sprint Cup race this year. This is why I sit back in front of the drawing board. Or more of a spreadsheet.   When the season began, we all made predictions about what we thought would ...

WRECK OF THE WEEK: WOMAN FIGHTS MAN

I will set up this video as best I can. A young lady with obviously malevolent intentions exchanges unkind words with a gentleman who is seated in the stands at the Coca-Cola 600. The action takes place during a rain delay, much to the delight of bored race-goers. The fair lady tries to step over the good gentleman, but he receives this action as an affront and promptly shoves her. Then things get ugly. The best part is the guy in the black shirt who uses his hand to guard both his person and ...

GREAT MOMENTS IN RAIN-DELAY HISTORY

The Coca-Cola 600 was marred by several rain delays, including one that caused the race to be moved from Sunday to Monday and another that prematurely ended the race. The action at the track, and the television coverage, was CNN-Jack-Cafferty-level boring. But as a wet Ashley Judd and countless sports fans and athletes have taught us in the past, rain can enhance - instead of eliminate - the joy of sports. Elvis has entered the baseball fieldElvis at Wrigley Rain Delay - Watch more Funny Vide ...

REUTIMANN WINS COCA-COLA 600

Journeyman David Reutimann won his first Sprint Cup race on Monday, emerging victorious at a rain-shortened, much-delayed Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. Reutimann took the lead when he did not pit during a caution for rain on lap 222. Officials ended the race two hours later. He won without leading a lap. The race was scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Monday because of rain. "When you envision winning your first Sprint Cup race, you envision it different," Reutimann said. &q ...
