DALE EARNHARDT JR. PETITION

Junior Nation is in revolt. A group of fans have taken to the Internet with a petition that calls for owner Rick Hendrick to make changes to the 88 team. The petition says:We have suspected for quite some time now that there is a problem somewhere within the 88 team, either in the shop or at the track. The statements released today from Tony Gibson have proven that our gut feelings were accurate. The fans would like this to be taken care of immediately!   We the fans thought our equipm ...

EARNHARDT LOSING STREAK REACHES 52

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s season of unrelenting misery and inexplicable failure continued at Lowe's Motor Speedway, where Earnhardt finished 38th after a long, frustrating night on the track. The 88 team, which had been making progress the last few races, took a step backward in Charlotte. Earnhardt fought the handling on the AMP Energy Chevrolet all night and was lapped by Denny Hamlin on lap 107. On lap 126 transmission issues led to a stop in the garage for the 88 car, where someone should have sh ...

EARNHARDT JR. BEYOND FRUSTRATION

CHARLOTTE _ His last top 10 came seven weeks ago at Bristol; it was only his fifth of the year – the fewest since his first full year in the Cup Series in 2000. To say Dale Earnhardt Jr. is frustrated is an understatement. In his second season with Hendrick Motorsports, Earnhardt Jr. has struggled mightily, failed to show improvement and has been subject to a crew chief change that clearly shook his confidence. With teammates Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin smoking the competition this year ...

EARNHARDT LOSING STREAK REACHES 51

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s season of unrelenting misery and inexplicable failure continued at Auto Club Speedway, where the 88 team started 37th and ran all the way up in the top 10, only to see all of its hard work wiped out in a crash of someone else's making. On lap 246, Earnhardt was bumped from behind by Elliott Sadler, triggering an eight-car wreck that took the 88 out of the running for the top 10. He finished 25th. Said Earnhardt, "We are doing whatever we can to stay positive. We had a t ...

EARNHARDT LOSING STREAK REACHES 50

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s season of unrelenting misery and inexplicable failure continued at Kansas Speedway, where the 88 team qualified on the front row, led 41 laps early in the Price Chopper 400 and proceeded to blunder away victory on pit road. During a green flag stop, the pit crew failed to attach all of the lug nuts to the left rear tire. Earnhardt Jr. was black flagged, penalized a lap and had to return to pit road to secure the rogue lug nut. Oh, but there was more misery and failure to com ...

DALE EARNHARDT JR. SONG ‘NEW 88′ VIDEO

Back in June I wrote about Glenn Jones, the 69-year-old mechanic from Carrollton, Miss., who wrote a song, which was recorded by Ray Steele, about Jones's favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. The song was posted on iTunes. Unfortunately, iTunes only allows you to listen to 30-second snippets of songs, so if you wanted to hear the whole thing before you purchased it, you were out of luck. Not anymore. YouTuber RacingDmp has created a music video (below) for New 88 that includes the song in its enti ...

REPLACING CREW CHIEF HAS NOT IMPROVED EARNHARDT’S PERFORMANCE

Has changing crew chiefs made a difference for Dale Earnhardt Jr.?Tony Eury Jr. lasted 12 races this season with Earnhardt.  Since then, we’ve run another 12 races, making this the perfect time to take a snapshot of replacement Lance McGrew’s performance.  Have the driver's results improved at all?First, consider his performance all year in the table below. Remember that Watermills, as I determined earlier this week, are the best way to determine the probability of winni ...

JUNIOR IS BACK … MAYBE

It's a shame when it is news that NASCAR's most popular driver led a lap in a race, but such is the state of Dale Earnhardt Jr., not to mention NASCAR's hard luck, during the 2009 season. Since April 26, when he finished second at Talladega, Earnhardt has not finished higher than 12th and has not led a lap. He led six laps on Sunday at the Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway and looked like a contender for the win.Earnhardt was able to challenge up front because of the decision to pit ...
