BAD BRAD FRONTS A CAST OF UNUSUAL SUSPECTS

You may not always like the racing you see week in and week out, but you can’t deny the flavors of the week have been changing as the 2011 Sprint Cup season unfolds. If the Chase started today, Brad Keselowski would be in it. No longer can it be said of him that his lone victory came in one of those flukey plate races. With victories at tracks as diverse as the mile-and-a-half at Kansas, and the Tricky Triangle at Pocono, Bad Brad has demonstrated the chops of a wheel man. How about Paul ...

IS JIMMIE JOHNSON A BAD TEAMMATE?

Well, look what we have here! Mr. Clean, Jimmie Johnson, finds himself embroiled in a little controversy. Seems his team’s decision to pit and leave dancing partner Dale Earnhardt Jr. out on the track has caused him enough grief on the “Twittersphere” to elicit a response from Ol’ “Five Time”….“I didn't leave Jr hanging, you people are crazy. When my crew tells me to pit, I pit. Steve and Chad sort out the detailsAnd if you think either of us coul ...

THERE’S A LOT RIDING ON DAYTONA

Between some of the hijinks at Sonoma, and given the way the standings are shaping up in the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, there may be as many fireworks during the race (or at least the end of it) as there is after it. Look closely at the standings, and you can see why. For some, there’s a golden opportunity to fortify their position at the front. For others, a Daytona victory may be their last best shot. For 2010 winner Kevin Harvick, this could become “Separation Saturday.&rdqu ...

DENNY HAMLIN FINALLY FINDS VICTORY LANE IN 2011

Coming into the 2011 season, many figured Denny Hamlin would be the man to beat right out of the gate. Leading the standings into the final race of the year in 2010, Hamlin came up short in the championship hunt last season, but gave Jimmie Johnson his biggest threat to date. However, 2011 has not gone according to plan for Hamlin and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team. Fifteen races into the season last year Hamlin had four victories. On Sunday, he repeated as the winner at Michigan International ...

FUEL MILEAGE IS STRATEGY AND STRATEGY IS A PART OF RACING

The race isn’t always to the swift. Sometimes, the dominant team doesn’t always win. Just ask the Miami Heat after Game 2 of the NBA finals. In this instance, the team with the hot hand won. At Kansas, the team who combined strategy with track position came out on top as Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag a day after Justin Allgaier coasted to the finish line at Chicagoland Speedway.I know I’m out on this limb with little company, but I don’t have a problem with fuel ...

BRAD KESELOWSKI WINS KANSAS WITH PLENTY OF FUEL

One week after running out of gas on the final lap, it appeared Dale Earnhardt Jr. was going to be in the catbird seat Sunday at Kansas Speedway. With more fuel than the rest of the field, Earnhardt Jr. had to wait until Brad Keselowski ran out of gas. The only problem was, Keselowski never ran out of fuel and was able to score his second career victory. Stretching his fuel mileage 57 laps, Keselowski utilized a number of gas-saving tactics to conserve fuel, including pressing on the clutch a ...

DALE EARNHARDT JR. RUNS OUT OF FUEL GIVING KEVIN HARVICK COCA-COLA 600 WIN

CONCORD, N.C. _ On a day that saw the leader wreck on the final lap of the Indianapolis 500, the 2011 Coca-Cola 600 also came down to a last lap pass for the win. Ironically, in both events it was the National Guard car that came up short on Memorial Day weekend.  Leading the field to the white flag, Dale Earnhardt Jr. brought Junior Nation to their feet as it appeared the fan favorite was about to end his daunting winless streak. However just like the Indy 500, it was n ...

NASCAR SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE: WHERE WAS THE ACTION?

CONCORD, N.C._ By the look of Carl Edwards' race winning car, it appeared the 2011 Sprint All-Star Race had lived up to it's promises. But looks can be deceiving. The television hyped the All-Star Race up as a race where “the gloves come off” and “revenge” could be had. Charlotte Motor Speedway used terms like “showdown” and called it a race where “it will all be settled for $1 million.” Yet in the end, the only fireworks came from&nb ...
