WHAT IT’S LIKE TO RIDE IN A STOCK CAR

By Todd GrandominicoCHARLOTTE _ It’s no secret; I’m not a NASCAR fan. Never have been, probably never will be. It’s not that I have anything against it, it’s just that spending 16 Sundays each year mired in the combination of alcoholism and disgust generally required of a Cleveland Browns fan, I figure it’s best to put sports aside for the other 36.But when the chance came up to take a few laps in a ride-along on the Charlotte Motor Speedway, I had to take it. ...

MAN IN NASCAR HAT ATTEMPTS TO ROB BANK

This one crossed my path somewhat after-the-fact, but in the interest of maintaining full NASCAR Fan Crime Spree coverage, I am duty bound to report the following. It has been a bad week. The race on Sunday stank and every columnist worth his salt correctly annihilated NASCAR for Talladega, the boring Chase and the rest of the sport's ills. And so, to change the tone of this site, if only for one post, I offer you the video below. Toyota, Great Clips, BraunAbility and Braun Racing teamed up to give away a one-of-a-kind wheelchair and wheelchair van at the Nationwide race in Charlotte. The kid who won is named Kody Harlow, and, yeah, he was pretty excited. ...

YOU CAN SPONSOR A SPRINT CUP CAR

A car by the people, for the people. How American a concept is that? A group called FanCar plans to sponsor two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Terry Labonte for the final race of the 2009 Sprint Cup season at Homestead. The mastermind behind the idea is a dude name Matt Ferguson. For $20 (a 24-pack of your favorite beer, not that I drink that much beer, at least not in a single setting) fans sign up and get their names on the car. FanCar works with teams that are already established, and in ...
