ALABAMA IS JUNIOR NATION

TALLADEGA, Ala. _ Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been ridiculed for his lousy 2009 season, but there is still one place that treats him like a hero - Talladega, Ala. I saw, heard and felt the power of Junior Nation firsthand during this Sunday's Amp Energy 500. As I walked among the throngs of race fans this weekend, Junior's colors were most prevalent, followed by Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne. Under closer inspection, however, most of those Kahne colors turned out to be Junior's old colors. Th ...

FAN WATCHES SQUIRREL EAT CORN OVER NASCAR RACE AT TALLADEGA

Well, this pretty much sums it up. Given the choice between watching the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega, and watching this squirrel eat corn on the front porch, this viewer goes squirrel. Forget football. We're beyond football. NASCAR is losing viewers to small woodland creatures that eat tiny bits of food in an adorable manner.   ...

THE BIG ONE TALLADEGA 2009

The Big One came late at Talladega on Sunday and Kurt Busch and Mark Martin got the worst of it. Martin, who came into the race determined not to worry about his luck at the superspeedway, was flipped down the track through no fault of his own. He was clearly frustrated following the race. Probably because the word "race" only loosely describes what happened on the track Sunday. Also, Jimmie Johnson might be the luckiest bastard on earth. Watch where he was when The Big One went dow ...

RYAN NEWMAN TALLADEGA CRASH

Ryan Newman was involved in an ugly crash with five laps to go at the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. FAMILY OF GIRL INJURED AT TALLADEGA WILL BE AT RACE THIS WEEKEND

Terry Bobbitt took his 17-year-old daughter Blake to her first NASCAR race at Talladega Superspeedway in April. Sitting close to the track, the father and daughter from Rogersville, Ala., felt the rush of the pack as it screamed by. When they rose to their feet at the sight of the checkered flag, the Bobbitts never imagined what would happen next. Carl Edwards was leading through the tri-oval as Brad Keselowski made a move to the inside. Edwards threw a block and Keselowski refused to ...

BUSCH-KESELOWSKI COOL-DOWN LAP SHENANIGANS?

OK. Let's be clear. At the end of Sunday's race at Talladega, Kyle Busch did not start his cool-down lap thinking, "I am definitely going to spin out winner Brad Keselowski." But you have to wonder about the series of events that put Busch in a position to do so. First Busch accelerated toward Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. while the two friends celebrated. We know that Busch is not there to fist-bump Junior or his buddy. So why did Busch encroach on their victorious cool-down la ...

ELIMINATE YELLOW LINE ON FINAL LAP?

Carl Edwards blamed NASCAR for his spectacular final-lap wreck at Talladega. "I guess we'll do this until someone gets killed and then we'll change it," he said. "That's the way it is. We do our best. We're put in this box by NASCAR and we have to race this way. If you look at how the final four cars were finishing, you had to be pushing the guy in front of you." Clearly, Edwards is no fan of the yellow line rule, under which cars are not allowed to pass at Talladega. But t ...
