Jamie McMurray is going on a hike. Whether that hike leads him to the 2010 Sprint Cup might depend on factors that have nothing to do with his racing skills.
McMurray seems to be the odd man out at Roush Fenway Racing, which must contract from five teams to four thanks to some lame NASCAR rule. Published reports suggest McMurray could move to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing to replace Martin Truex Jr. McMurray started his career with Ganassi; so, the move seems logical. How’s this for a curveball.
The wild-card in the scenario is the sponsor. Bass Pro Shops would like to have an “outdoorsman” type of driver, one who’ll appeal to their customer base. To some degree, Truex Jr. fulfilled that role; less so McMurray, who’s not exactly the world’s most passionate hunter, fisherman or camper.
