2014 Aaron’s 499 Odds

Welcome to NASCAR’s biggest crap shoot.

Nobody knows how Talladega will play out. Sprint Cup fans know there will be a big wreck, random drafting and lots of lead changes. The people orchestrating that are a total mystery. As a result, the odds for this week’s race are some of the strangest Sprint Cup fans will see all year.

Lead Pack

For the first time this 2014 Sprint Cup season, the favorite is 10/1 or worse. The only reason Dale Earnhardt Jr. even finds himself at 10/1 is because of popularity. Realistically, there is a pack of ten drivers at 12/1. This should show fans even the oddsmakers aren’t sure what will happen. Those drivers by the way:

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr 10/1
  • Jeff Gordon 12/1
  • Denny Hamlin 12/1
  • Tony Stewart 12/1
  • Brad Keselowski 12/1
  • Joey Logano 12/1
  • Kevin Harvick 12/1
  • Kyle Busch 12/1
  • Matt Kenseth 12/1
  • Jimmie Johnson 12/1

Backing The Pack:

The more interesting story is who is backing the pack. Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin have struggled this year and made the cool kids table. Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch are both in the Chase and on the outside of the crowd. Kyle Larson, a rookie, is also in the second pack of drivers near 20/1. These drivers by the way:

  • Carl Edwards 18/1
  • Clint Bowyer 18/1
  • Kasey Kahne 18/1
  • Kurt Busch 20/1
  • Greg Biffle 20/1
  • Kyle Larson 20/1
  • Jamie McMurray 25/1
  • Ryan Newman 25/1
  • Brian Vickers 30/1

Three Really Intriguing Names:

Austin Dillon won the pole at Daytona and ran well in spots during Speed Week. He is 50/1 His Richard Childress Racing teammate Ryan Newman hates this track but had a good car at Daytona. Newman is 40/1. Trevor Bayne won a Daytona 500 and is 100/1.

Nobody knows what is going to happen at Talladega. When oddsmakers throw ten names together with the same number, it’s a sign that the Aaron’s 499 is NASCAR’s biggest crap shoot. If someone is going to come from nowhere to win, it’s this week and this track.  Here’s how your favorite driver stacks up. Enjoy the chaos, and insert a random catchphrase here.
